WHAT IS A “REFORMED” CHURCH?

A “Reformed” church is one that was born out of the 16th century Reformation that broke off from the Roman Catholic Church. The word “Reformed” essentially means “biblical”, or going back to Scripture.

A Reformed church believes in:

  • That we are saved from our sin by faith in Jesus Christ alone, purely out of the grace of God, and to the glory of God.
  • That the Bible is the true, inspired Word of God. We believe the Bible is the full story of salvation that teaches us of our sin, how we are saved through grace, and how we are to live in obedience.

In short, to be Reformed is to adhere to the purist teachings of the Bible – to affirm the teachings of Jesus, Paul and the apostles. Scripture is considered the ultimate authority in matters of life and faith and all Reformed doctrine is founded on the Bible.
